Welcome! If you’re wondering what all the 31 hubbub is about. Read this.
Lindsey Nichole Fry was Ben’s kindergarten teacher (and we’re crossing our fingers that she’ll be Alex and Em’s teacher, too). Sending your first child to school leaves you Crazy with emotions. Everything was new–new teachers, new school, new friends, new routine. I was an excited nervous wreck—and, really, Ben was fine—I needed to chill out.
I remember wondering what his teacher was like and I was at the library one day talking to a friend of mine who teaches at the same school. My friend was expecting a baby and I jokingly said, “I hope Ben’s teacher isn’t pregnant. He doesn’t do well with change.” And then my friend said, “Well Lindsey is right over there. You can go talk to her.” Oh my goodness! I was so glad to be able to talk to her before school started….and turns out she was pregnant for her second daughter. (classic case of way to go Rachel with your big mouth)
Even though it wasn’t the whole year, I am so glad that she was his teacher. She was the perfect transition from preschool to big kid school. Ben loved having her as a teacher and my other two kids adore her. I helped every week at the school and Emily would go with me. Lindsey would always talk to her and I’m pretty sure Emily thought Mrs. Fry was her bff.
The community that I live in has really great schools and we are blessed with awesome teachers. Lindsey is definitely one of those teachers. So, Lindsey, thank you thank you thank you! Thanks for all of the extra hours that you put in to teach the little children. Thank you for always having that beautiful smile that makes kids feel so welcome. Thanks for your sweet spirit and for loving our kids.
I sat with Lindsey after school one day and asked her a little about her life. Even though I see her almost every week at our girls’ dance class, I don’t really know much about her and so I was excited to learn a little more.
Lindsey and her husband, Clayton, have two beautiful daughters named Grace and Naomi. She and her husband were high school sweethearts and were married after her freshman year of college. She took a semester off and then went back to IPFW to finish her degree. She said that a lot of people doubted that she would go back and finish school, but I’m so glad that she proved them wrong! She was born and raised in Bluffton and now lives out in the country. She said she loves living out there and not having to worry about anyone looking in the windows. (shameful admission: This led us to talk about how we look in people’s windows at night. Not in a creepy way…just driving past…..but I’m sure we’re not the only ones to do this!)

Here are her answers to some of my other questions.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? “a librarian and a teacher…I would even scan the books with a little wand like librarians used to do.” I played library when I was little, too. Only I had due date papers inside the books and would write the dates down and pretend to stamp them like they did when I was little. Oh man, I feel so old.
Did you always want to teach kindergarten? “I really liked 2nd grade.” Well I think you are a perfect kindergarten teacher. You have SO much patience! “I really am not that patient of a person.” Oh, so it is a growth experience for you 🙂
What’s the best thing about being a teacher? “you mean besides wiping their runny noses?” hahahhaha! yeah besides that. “I love how they love you. They draw pictures and give them to me and their little hugs.”
Tell me something interesting about the last movie you watched. “well that would be Princess Barbie” oh I see Grace and Emily have something in common! “yes 🙂 I love that she dances with it and needs to watch it with her princess dress on.”
What’s been your favorite vacation? “our honeymoon to Cancun. We were there 10 days and it was so much fun to just do whatever we wanted…..my husband gained 10 pounds on that vacation because the food was so good! And I learned to love bacon.” Excuse me? Did you say you learned to love bacon? “yeah…I didn’t really eat it before.” Oh man! thank goodness for honeymoons. Can you imagine a world with no bacon?! 🙂
Tell me something that people would find surprising to know. “Oh that’s a hard one………I like video games.” Like the shoot ’em up video games? “no not those…like old school nintendo.” I would not have guessed that about you. But really, what’s not to love about mario kart?
What’s your favorite song right now? “Redeemed by Big Daddy Weave” Love this song.
What book are you reading right now? “The Monster in the Hollows by Andrew Peterson. It is a fantasy/adventure story and it is book 3 out of 4 in a series. It’s my 7th grade nephew’s book.” I’m always up for new book options. I will be checking out this series.
What has been your most life changing moment? “having my girls” I’m always wondering what it is like to have more than one girl. You have a sister, right? “I am the oldest and I have two sisters.” oh man…drama! 🙂
Finish this sentence. Before I die, I want to “become foster parents and also hopefully adopt a child someday if anyone would be crazy enough to choose us:)” They’d be crazy not to.
Thanks Lindsey for letting me interview you! It is Monday morning and the start of a new school week. Send your kids’ teacher a quick email/text/or fb message telling them thanks for their hard work. You never know how much a little note of encouragement means to someone! And if you home school, give yourself a big hug and an extra cup of coffee this morning.
See you all tomorrow with another super friend of mine!
